General Golf Pool Picking Strategy
- Pick guys that will make the cut
- Pick guys that others won't
- Use data, like past results at the tournament, odds, etc. For these picks I used our free PGA Championship Power Rankings tool. I assigned weight to Odds, Recent PGA Championship Finishes, and other recent major finishes. Give it a try to do your own research.
Tier 1 Pick: Bryson DeChambeau
Bryson has been knocking on the door of another major win for a while now.
He was close at the Masters this year and punted on the Sunday.
Throwing out the Open last year, he had a Win, T5, and T6.
Last 2 PGA Championships solo 2nd and T4.
He is a great pick in tier 1.
All Tier 1 Pick Options & Data
For the pick options in this article I show odds, tier, and power ranking considering recent PGA Championship (shown in Green) and recent Major finishes (shown in blue) only.

Tier 2 Pick: Patrick Cantlay
Trust the odds in tier 2. Cantlay has best odds to win at 28/1.
Fleetwood does have a decent track record at PGA Championship, so he could be worth a try.
Haven't seen much from the rest the tier 2ers in recent majors.

Tier 3 Pick: Joaquin Niemann
Niemann has 3 wins this year already on the LIV tour and a T29 at the Masters.
Look for him to remain in form heading into the PGA this year.

Tier 4 Pick: Patrick Reed
Call me old fashioned, but I like Reed in tier 4.
He was close at the Masters with a solo 3rd finish.
Made the cut in the past 3 PGA Championships.
All Tier 4 Pick Options & Data

Tier 5 Pick: Justin Rose
Rose made the playoff at the Masters, last 3 PGA Championships have been inside the top 15!
Plus a T2 at last year's Open Championship.
Seems like a no brainer in tier 5.
All Tier 5 Pick Options & Data

Tier 6 Pick: Tom Hoge
I'm going to trust the power ranking algorithm in Tier 6 and go with Hoge.
He's had decent finishes that last 3 PGA Championships,
let's hope it continues this year.
